pretend camping

Chris set up the tent to see if he could do it by himself. He was going to be camping this weekend up in Darlington. He is volunteering at the race. He left yesterday around 7 am and helped out all day. He set up the tent where the officials of the race told him to. When it was bedtime, around midnight, the police came around and told him he had to move his tent because he couldn't camp there. Bless his heart he was so tired. It's a long drive home. He figured it was quicker to drive home then to take the tent down, pack it up ,and then set it up again.Plus he would have a nice warm bed, comfy house, and a good breakfast before he starts his day again. He has to go back today and will be there until midnight again. I'm letting him sleep in. This time he doesn't have to be there until 11am.

Anyway we took advantage Friday of his practice tent set up. We left it up and had a pretend camping experience. The mood was right. We grilled steaks and ate outside on the patio. Then we fired up the chiminaya and roasted marshmallows. The kids loved playing in the tent .We had a great time. There is something about melted gooey marshmallows that make setting up a campfire worth it.

As the sun was setting it started to get cold. I'm talking really cold. It was around 38 a storm was brewing and it was so weird to have been in the mid 70's and feel it drop so fast. We all huddled around the fire until we couldn't take it anymore. The kids were like popsicles. Chris and I were considering sleeping in the tent with Leia so she could really camp, but when it got so cold we all agreed it was best to sleep inside. Leia was bummed, but it was better then getting sick.Plus if we had, we would have gotten wet. It rained most of the night.

Leia's 100th marshmallow. Just kidding.

The kids enjoying tent time.Poor Ethan kept tripping on things. He fell like 4 times from tripping over the ledge, to get in or out of the tent, to tripping over the ropes.I finally put knee pads on him. He didn't trip after that. Go figure.

We had fun pretend camping.
